vexed in vegas

well i finally made it. i’m in sin city. i had a killer week coming out of a fun but unrestful weekend. the flights yesterday were long and bumpy. i am glad for my stomach of steel. by the time i was unlocking the door to my hotel room i had been up and on the move for about 18 hours. it was the first time i could just colapse and emote.

even with an early morning call from jeff i got a lot of sleep and my eastern clock is not too off. i woke up see vegas in the day light for the first time. there is a lot of “big” here for such a small place. last night i was feeling very defeated and everystep i took drug me deeper into this loud, bright, smoky place.

today i attended my first seesion. it was a perfect storm of information. the session alone makes my trip worth while.

it is so awakening to be on the road solo again. it reminds me how important jeff is and how when you are so close to a person you can tend to not see the closeness. i think being away for awhile before our hoenymoon trip will be a good thing.

on the road again

i have a few trips coming up which is fairly unusual for the past few years. in about a week i’m heading out to las vegas for a conference. while i am totally geeking out about the conference i am unsettle about going to las vegas. i have a precise zero percent interest in going to las vegas. i couldn’t even handle going to branson missouri so i’m pretty sure vegas will drive me nuts. the place just seems to represent and exponentiate everything hated about americans. i do not want to be so close minded to a place i never been so i guess to look at best i hope to learn a ton at the conference and have some wacky observations to share.

the day after i get back from las vegas jeff and i are going to toronto. this is our belated honeymoon. we have been looking forward to going. i love toronto. jeff has never been before but has certainly heard plenty about it. i am really looking forward to the trip.

both trips will provide a welcomed break from the rut of daily work life.

times they are a’changin’

there is a lot of change at work right now. 2 of 4 have left or are leaving soon. one of those is my “boss” and i have positive feelings about him going. the other person is a friend of mine and i’m not too disapointed ’cause he’ll be around. a third coworker annouced recently that he is on the market because he needs a higher salary to support his fiancee’s recently job shift and decision to go back to grad school. so if you did the math right, there is a potential that i will have senior status on the tech staff having only been here just over a year.

this scenario is far from ideal for me. i certainly hope the coworker on the market will be able to stay at the school. as it is he will likely be leaving may 2007 so just having a year or so to transition would be ideal.

there is other stuff going on too with the, let’s say, intent my “boss” has in his remaining tenure. all the facts aren’t in yet but the issues are anywhere from all out lying to the staff to possible not really leaving and just saying he is to gain power for his job.

i hope to write more about this later when i actually know what is going on.
